19 May 2015 -- The Health and Social Committee of the Senate of the Czech Republic organized a press conference and seminar at the occasion of the World No Tobacco Day (WNTD, May 31) in collaboration with the Society for Treatment of Tobacco Dependence and the WHO Czech liaison office in the Senate on May 19, 2015.
Participants were welcomed by the deputy chair of the Health and Social Cttee of the Senate Ivana Dernerova,MD. The topic of the WNTD was introduced by Alena Steflova,MD, head of the Czech WHO liaison office. Current legislation and bill of the Czech Ministry of Health including smoke-free indoor spaces was desrcibed by the deputy minister for legislation JUDr. Lenka Teska-Arnostova. Statistics on smoking prevalence in the population, still around 30 % (age 15+), is followed for 19 years by Hana Sovinova,MD, from the National Institute of Public Health. New current research showing 78 % support of the smoke-free indoor spaces was introduced by Miroslav Sliz from the Faculty of Social Sciences of the Charles University and agency Ipsos. The smoke-free legislation situation in EU including the “smoke-free map” by the Smoke-Free Partnership was introduced by Jiri Jerabek,Mgr. from NGO Smokefree Czech Republic. The role of health professionals in treatment of tobacco dependence and education in the Czech Republic was mentioned for physicians by Eva Kralikova (Society for Treatment of Tobacco Dependence and the 1st Faculty of Medicine, Charles University), for pharmacists by Vilma Vranova,PharmDr., Jiri Dobias,PharmDr. and Ales Novosad,PharmDr (Czech Chambre of Pharmacists), and Katerina Mala (nurses section of the Society for Treatment of Tobacco Dependence) who also mentioned the collaboration with the International Society of Nurses in Cancer Care.
